Tip #829: Emergent Situation Bag

September 23, 2007 – 11:51 pm

The “Emergent Situation Bag” may sound like a theological dilemma, but will surely get you out of a jam! More than the traditional “first aid” kit with the supplies you need for minor injuries, this is a small duffel (mine’s neon orange) that comes on every outing and trip, and can get you out of almost every “I forgot” or “I need” and “where is” that arises. Inside the bag: Pre-packed First Aid kit, duct tape, flashlight, batteries, sunscreen, wet wipes, blister block, a variety of travel size toiletries (tooth paste/brushes, deodorant, shampoo, tissues), feminine products, quart sized zipper bags, 4 large garbage bags, paper cups, a couple of bottles of water, a few card games, a bag of lollipops, a frisbee or an inflatable ball, a trip mascot, puzzle or quiz books, some paper and pens, a paperback bible, a couple of sharpies and some tape. Any of the student medicines that need leader supervision get packed in there along with the folder containing a copy of all the med instructions/releases/permission slips for that outing. Over the years, every time something was “forgotten” it was added to the bag, and it has become a real “don’t leave home with out it.”

What other items have you found invaluable to have brought along “just in case?”

  3. Well, a trash bag would work for all the stuff. I think you would have to hit up a Wal*Mart. Personally, I leave mine in the back of the church van so it’s not hard to remember.
