Tip #71 Over-communicate

September 16, 2007 – 11:55 pm

communicateWhen it comes to communicating your plans, always error on the side of doing too much. Make sure that you give your schedule to the church “schedule keeper” (whoever that is on your staff) as well as the people you report to. Even in you are part-time or a volunteer, making sure your meetings are on the calendar is a simple step to make sure no one forgets about you.

Send parents e-mails, call students, put stuff in the bulletin, make verbal announcements at your meetings, post stuff on your youth group webpage, mail a postcard. If you aren’t annoyed… you aren’t communicating enough. Do anything you possibly can to keep your events in front of your students and parents. And as a bonus tip, add your Senior Pastor to all of those distribution points. Trust me, your Senior Pastor can be the youth group’s biggest friend. It seems like a cliche` but remember this, “Communicate. Communicate. Communicate!”
